The Journey Begins

Here we go!

“Your body will be around a lot longer than that expensive handbag. Invest in yourself.” ~Unknown

Three weeks ago I started a common “diet” fad known as Intermittent Fasting (IF). For those of you who don’t know what Intermittent Fasting is, it’s essentially a schedule of fasting with a small window of allowed eating times. For example, my IF schedule is as follows:

Fasting from 10pm-2pm everyday with an eight hour food window from 2pm-10pm. Some people might think this is absolutely absurd… myself included. HOWEVER, my opinion changed.

Here’s a short backstory about me that might make this whole journey a bit easier to understand…

Growing up I was a pure-breed athlete. No, I’m not talking about my entire family line was comprised of athletes… although that would be a startling discovery considering I am adopted. HA. Okay, back to what I was saying.

Pure-breed athlete: all I did growing up was athletics. Gymnastics, softball, tennis, football, soccer (only for a day.. dad didn’t want his baby girl all scraped up *sigh*), swimming.. I think you get the picture. My body composition was muscular. I had the “thunder thighs”, V shaped back, toned arms, and abs. I was in great shape. When I turned 10, all of the sports stopped. Yes, I played tennis with my mom here and there but my sports fanaticism faded as well as my muscularity.

Fast-forward 9 years. BOOM, the doom of college living. I did GREAT my first year at college, away from home. I was in the gym 6 days a week, twice a day. I began to build a nice following on Instagram by posting my fitness routines, helpful supplements, and so forth. After the first year, my energy level went down. Depression came due to a loss of friendships and stress followed me around constantly… and as humans what do we tend to do when darkness overwhelms? WE EAT FOOD….. CONSTANTLY!!!!

Our college campus had a Chick-Fil-A, but any normal American does
NOT order grilled chicken nuggets from Chick-Fil-A so my everyday/in-between classes meal was a twelve piece FRIED chicken nugget meal with a large fry and a large rootbeer. Now you see where all the weight mainly came from: emotions and emotional eating.

I finished college recently, at age 21, and moved back home. I was heading into Law Enforcement so fitness came back as my number one passion. I was back in the gym, working out constantly, eating right, and doing cardio daily. Well, life hit again… my third day on duty and I tore my hamstring. I moved back home again, in pain and unable to workout. I sat around doing nothing, snacking on everything. Then it hit me. I HAVE OPTIONS.

Option #1. Give up. Gain 100+ more pounds and welcome health issues with open arms.

Option #2. Forget the doctor’s orders and push my leg to the max… Which we all know I did not do.

Option #3. Ask for help from personal trainer/nutrition friends.

DING DING DING!! I chose option number 3. I contacted several of my fitness friends/trainers and got the same answer… Intermittent Fasting.I know you’re probably relieved to finally get to the point of this whole blog. I know I babbled quite a bit but I wanted to share some information so you’d know where I was before and what I went through to get to this point in my health journey.

Now that you’re all caught up, I will continue blogging about Intermittent Fasting… my schedule and my food choices… maybe drop some sweet recipes… and who knows, maybe you’ll give it a shot too:)
